Harold Lea, Director, Chief Financial Officer
After completing his MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, Harold was recruited by Chevron for its MBA Management program. The role offered exposure to various departments at Chevron including CIOC (Chevron International Oil Company) where Harold traded futures and options to hedge oil price risk, Treasury Strategy and Planning where he forecasted economic trends, and the New York Money Markets group where he was involved in arbitraging commercial paper and investment portfolios.
Harold left Chevron for a Palo Alto software company to launch a program he designed for basket hedging of oil price risk. Within two years, he became that firm’s CEO and advanced it to acquisition by a global software company (now Misys).
Harold then joined banking risk management integration software company Alier as COO. Over the next three years, Harold led sales and operations and negotiated Alier’s sale to Active Software where he became a member of the acquirer’s executive staff. Six months later, Active was sold to WebMethods, a B2B software company, for $1.3 billion.
Partnering with economics professors from Stanford and Caltech, Harold moved to game theory-based auctions. His numerous auction companies were responsible for groundbreaking state electricity purchases and water rights allocations.
In 2015 and 2016, Harold launched Sierra Energy Capital and Sierra Advisors to provide licensed Investment Banking and business advisory services to energy, technology, and consumer products companies.
Harold holds FINRA series 79, 63 and 82 registrations with Growth Capital Services, a broker/dealer in San Francisco.
Sierra’s current engagements include numerous energy-related activities, a Brazilian Amazon broadband buildout, an energy/LED/IoT spinoff, a specialty coffee company, a professional services acquisition-rollup firm, and several software companies.
